dr. selma hajri is a physician specializing in reproductive endocrinology and a feminist activist for sexual and reproductive rights. she has more than 30 years of clinical and research experience in the field of hormonal contraception and medical abortion, as well as extensive experience training providers on sexual and reproductive health and rights in tunisia and across africa.
she is the founder of the groupe tawhida ben cheikh, a tunisian ngo dedicated to sexual and reproductive health and rights. she served as its president from 2012 to 2016, and as secretary general until 2025. during this time, she developed and disseminated training curricula in french and arabic for tunisian providers focused on values clarification and attitude transformation, aimed at reducing stigma and barriers to safe and legal abortion.
as a researcher, she has published articles on the introduction of medical abortion in tunisia, barriers to abortion access, and the medical and socio-anthropological aspects of menopause.
dr. hajri is currently vice-president of asfamm (association for women’s health in africa, the maghreb, and the middle east) in france, and executive director of mara-med (movement for the right and access to abortion in the mediterranean).
